The establishment of a watershed group in the Belfast area was driven by community passion and volunteer efforts. In 2017, the vision came to fruition with support from local community members, and the wider watershed community. A foundational meeting gathered commitments from volunteers, and funding was secured from the PEI Watershed Alliance and the PEI Wildlife Conservation Fund, amounting to $3,261. Since then, the group’s budget has grown significantly.
It is often said that to understand the future, one must look to the past. In our case, we need not look far back into the past to gain an appreciation for all that has been done to build a successful watershed restoration workforce within our community. By recognizing the passion and effort that has been invested to date, our hope is the vision for the group remains strong into the future.
