Little Sands Shore

DRAINAGE LITTLE SANDS SHORE – The Little Sands Shore watershed has over 45 km of coast, 6687 hectares, and many sub-watersheds. Forested land is 52.2%, with an additional 7% in wetlands. Due to the importance of wetlands to biodiversity, carbon storage, and water filtration, the wetlands, including their surrounding buffer zones, are critical ecosystems. Efforts are ongoing to improve fish passage, forests, and watercourses along this area. In addition, the Little Sands Shore watershed is home to significant public infrastructure for transportation with the ferry system. Hereby, sedimentation and climate change will have impacts economically, socially, and environmentally in Wood Islands.
