DRAINAGE BLACK MARSH – 701 hectares is the drainage area for this diverse watershed. Of these 701 hectares, almost 14% is considered wetland. Black Marsh watershed consists of open-water wetlands with subcategories of deep marsh, shallow marsh, and meadow. These are diverse and high value as there is open water and no significant development. This provides for valuable wildlife, biodiversity, and carbon storage. Additionally, 40.4% is forested (2024 activities will lower forested area). The agriculture usage is approximately 42%, with a significant portion using sustainable land use practices such as regenerative farming, expanded buffer zones, and species-at-risk protection measures.
